FREEMAN FORWARD

Freeman Public Schools continues to grow and evolve, and the spaces where students learn need to grow with them.

The Freeman Public Schools Board of Education has called for a November 3rd bond election to address current space needs and prepare our schools for the future. The proposed plan includes a new stand-alone Career and Technical Education building, an expanded kitchen, and improvements to existing spaces that will create additional opportunities for students throughout the district.

This plan is about more than adding space. It is about making better use of our entire school and creating learning environments that support Freeman students today and for years to come.

CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE)

Building skills for life beyond the classroom.

Career and Technical Education at Freeman has changed dramatically over the past decade. Students have opportunities to explore agriculture, skilled trades, technology, construction and other career pathways while developing practical skills they can carry into college, the workforce and life after graduation.

And students are taking advantage of those opportunities.

That’s a 13x increase in students participating in CTE classes.

As participation has grown, Freeman has outgrown its current shop and instructional spaces. We received a reVISION Grant in 22-23 for $78,776 and one in 25-26 for $100,000. Both grants helped to expand our CTE program with the purchase of industry-standard equipment. A new stand-alone CTE building would provide dedicated, purpose-built spaces where students can learn, build, experiment and prepare for what comes next.

proposed CTE building includes

  • Ag, metals and woods shops
  • Ag classroom
  • IT classroom and innovation lab
  • Two science classrooms
  • Detached greenhouse
  • Additional parking north of the existing parking lot

Career pathways already available at Freeman:

Plant Science • Animal Science • Metals & Fabrication • Automotive • Construction

KITCHEN & FOOD SERVICE

More room to serve a growing school.

Freeman’s nutrition team prepares and serves approximately 425+ meals each school day to K-12 students.

As enrollment has grown, the district has worked to make the most of the existing kitchen. Additional ovens were purchased in 2022, and space was reconfigured to accommodate a second serving line. Even with those improvements, the kitchen has reached the limits of what the existing space can efficiently support.

Limited preparation and serving space makes it difficult to accommodate the number of meals being served and limits the variety of menu options. The location of the current tray drop also creates congestion near the west entrance during lunch.

An Expanded Kitchen Would

  • Provide additional space for meal preparation and service
  • Improve the flow of students during busy lunch periods
  • Reduce congestion near the west entrance
  • Provide greater flexibility for menu options
  • Better accommodate Freeman’s current and future enrollment

IMPROVEMENTS TO EXISTING BUILDING

THE BIGGER PICTURE

One plan. More opportunities for Freeman students.

Freeman Forward is about preparing our facilities for the education Freeman students need today and the opportunities they will pursue tomorrow.

The proposed improvements would address immediate space constraints while creating room for career exploration, academics, student services, nutrition, activities and future growth.

Preparing our students of today for their lives tomorrow.
